Five thousand semi literate men, collect and deliver over 200,000 lunch boxes across office spaces in Mumbai city in a matter of a few hours, in a unique, diligent and highly efficient technique. This is their story the story of Mumbai Dabbawalas.
Dabbawalas achieved something that no other commercial organization strives towards. The Mumbai Dabbawalas, an organization that has spent the last century or so delivering Tiffin boxes across Mumbai, having Prince Charles as their brand ambassador, and Richard Branson, CEO, Virgin endorsing them. The President of the Dabbawala Organization, Shri Raghunath Dondhiba Medge & General Secretary Shri Gangaram Laxman Talekar were at International Institute of Information Technology, Pune on 24th September.
Though, their operations are close to 125 years old, Dabbawalas have gained recent popularity for their meticulous and timely delivery pattern that puts many a multi-national corporation to shame. They havent been on a strike in the last 116 years, and since their rise to fame, Shri Raghunath Dondhiba Medge , has been giving lecturers at various business management schools, including the Harvard Business School and other colleges across the globe explaining the finer nuances of the business model and why it is so efficient and successful. The fact that every Dabbawala is a share holder of the organization adds to its enterprise appeal.
Though the work of a dabbawala sounds simple, it is actually a highly specialized trade which has become integral to Mumbais culture. Raghunathji gave an educational, inspiring and humorous presentation to the Students. Walking on to the stage with his customary white cap, with a Tiffin box in his hand, he shouted out to the crowd, Good Afternoon I2IT and thereon the students were in rapt attention to Raghunathjis lecture.
Though he made constant jibes at MBA graduates, he said he holds deep respect for them. There are two kinds of people in the world. One is with an MBA degree, and the other one without an MBA degree. An MBA person is one who converts problems into solutions added Raghunathji. The recorded error rate of a dabbalwa is one in 16 million transactions, and they charge a monthly fee of Rs. 350 for their services. Speaking about their Six Sigma Certification, and ISO 2000 Certification, Raghunath said, Our men are very simple, when they heard Six Sigma, they thought it is something very valuable made of gold and silver. But when we got a piece of paper, we said, our taxi fare to this place has been wasted. Now, that certificate is lying somewhere inside a cupboard gathering dust.

How Much Is The Taxi Fare From Tagbilaran To Chocolate Hills Complex in Carmen?
My friend wants to go to Chocolate Hills on his own from Tagbilaran. How much is the taxi fare from Tagbilaran to Chocolate Hills Complex in Carmen Bohol? What other modes of transportation can one hire for this trip? Thanks in advance!
Taxi fare?
How much is a taxi fare normally? I mean, what is the rate? I live in a very small town, & I have no other form of transportation, so I want to know about the cost of a taxi, like the fare part…thx if u can help!
How much is the taxi fare from NYC-LGA to the Radisson Martinique on Broadway?
I need a guesstimate. I’ve read conflicting answers – some base fares, others with a ‘from the airport’ fare – on the ‘net and I need a solid answer from a New Yorker. How much will it cost to take a taxi from LGA to the Radisson Martinique?
What is the taxi fare from madrid airport to hotel?
we are staying at Hesperia Emperatriz in Madrid and wanted to see what the taxi fare would be. Thanks.
How much would the taxi fare be between London Waterloo and Great Ormond Street hospital?
Traveling to London Waterloo by train, set to arrive just after lunch (1-1.30pm) and we have to get to Great Ormond street children’s hospital with a 10 month old baby by 3pm. Need to know how much the taxi fare would be and if there are any other options for getting to Great Ormond street from Waterloo (with a baby) that we should consider.
There are no taxis. I am presently in Tagbilaran, and just took a tour of the sights yesterday. Best to take a package tour. Otherwise, your friend can hire a car, at P2,500 per day. Maybe your friend can inquire from a car-hire driver for a special discounted fare if the destination is only Chocolate Hills. Contact my driver Bebot Telmo, telephone number 09217424188
Add: I just came from another tour with the driver I mentioned. He corrected me and said there are a few taxis, but they will negotiate the fare because they can’t take a passenger going back, Chocolate Hills in Carmen is 54 kms away from Tagbilaran. So the fixed fare will be P1,800, and some will insist on P2,000. That is why it is better to hire the car for the whole day and cover all the sights, for P2,500 (no guide, and all entrance fees are yours).
Look at the table in this link – the table shows typical fares and journey times based on distance for three types of tariff. Fares and journey times may be higher if there are delays or heavy traffic.

Estimated distance is 1.5 miles (doesn’t take into account any one-way streets)
Alternatives:
Buses from Waterloo – 68, 168, 188, 243 stop near Great Ormond Street Hospital.
Tube to Russell Square (Piccadilly Line) or Holborn (Piccadilly Line & Central Line).

NYC cab fares can be a bit difficult to calculate because once the flag drops you get charged for the distance that you’re traveling or the time that you spend not traveling
Here’s the route that mapquest suggested and while I usually disagree with mapquest on just about everything >I have to say that this is the correct route
http://www.mapquest.com/maps?1qn=LGA&2c=New+York&2s=NY&2a=49+W+32nd+St&2z=10001-3811&2y=US&2l=40.748193&2g=-73.987964&2v=ADDRESS
Notice that it uses the Queens Midtown Tunnel which has an EZ Pass toll of $4.57
So lets use 9 miles as our basic distance

$3.00 initial flag drop LGA
+
9 mi @$ 2.00 per mi= 18.00
_______________
$21.00
+
$4.00 tip @19%
___________
$25.00

$4.57 Toll >QMT
______________
$ 29.57
Call it $30.00

Notes :
NYC cabs charge by the ride and not the number of passengers so if you can find somebody heading to the ESB or MSG /Penn Station you can save a couple of bucks on cab fare
Do not hail a cab yourself at LGA ;a taxi dispatcher will do that for you.
It is illegal in for a NYC cabbie to deliberately get a passenger stuck in traffic or to chose a more expensive longer route -there however are longer routes that actually are cheaper.
This routing does not in any way require a cabbie to cross over Grand Central Parkway when leaving LGA .
Enjoy NYC
expensive !!!!! get a bus schedule !!!!
